Encourage students to read with others, as well as alone because both will give them the confidence to read and learn with or without others. During the summer, students can read to siblings, parents, or even their pets.
Students need to enjoy the reading experience so they will be able to expand their vocabulary, make new connections and associations, as well as become better writers. Once these skills are formed, there needs to be practice that allows students to become even more balanced as a reader and an individual.
So, make some time for your child to read to YOU, the FLOWERS, the DOG, or even to a STUFF DOLL!
