Retirement of the Stuff Animals

This is a sad day in the library. Today, we have to make another change to fit the needs of our students. This will not be a popular change, but it is one that will allow students to concentrate even more on their individual and group tasks in the library. We must “retire the stuff animals” in order to allow our students to be more responsible individuals.

Yes, it will be difficult not seeing the stuff animals everyday, but as a whole, the students have outgrown their need for the stuff animals. Hopefully, the interaction between the students and the stuff animals during the first 10 weeks of school allowed the students to become more confident readers. So, until we see you again, we say this to our friends, “Thank you for all you have taught us. Enjoy your time away from us, but remember, you will never be forgotten.”

YOUTUBE CHANGE

Using VIDEO in the library has proven to be a good addition to the routine. Students are excited about viewing the videos of their friends, as well as other students in the building.

As of today, the YOUTUBE channel will still be there, but all of the videos will be PRIVATE. This way, students can still learn from others, but there will no longer be a place of the public to view student videos.

There hasn’t been a problem with the videos being PUBLIC, but it is unnecessary to have the videos PUBLIC for what we want to accomplish in the library with students learning and sharing. YOUTUBE is a great place to “store” the videos because of the space and accessibility for the teachers and students.

There will still be videos that can be viewed by the PUBLIC, but they will only be seen through the library BLOG or FACEBOOK page.
